MORGANTOWN — James Edwards will spend 15 years in prison for a robbery in a hotel parking lot.

On Jan. 2, Monongalia County Circuit Court Judge sentenced Edwards during a morning hearing. He previously pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery. The state recommended the 15-year sentence.

In June, Edwards attacked a woman in the Westover Microtel parking lot. Edwards said there was an issue with her rental truck, and when she looked, he tried to take her purse.

When she resisted, Edwards hit her in the head and face.

Edwards got into an SUV and attempted to flee, but the woman tried to stop him. He slammed her head against the car door and dragged the victim by the vehicle for a short distance.
