MORGANTOWN — Karmit Banks will head to prison for his role in an October 2016 drug deal gone wrong.

Monongalia County Circuit Court Judge Phillip Gaujot sentenced Banks during a Nov. 27 hearing. He sentenced Banks to separate, two- to 10-year sentences for two counts of assault during the commission of a felony. But, he ordered the sentences run at the same time.

Monongalia County Prosecutor Perri Jo DeChristopher said in October 2016, Banks returned to a Wilson Avenue residence, upset with drugs he recently purchased. He entered, brandishing a handgun.

The victim’s boyfriend and Banks got into a fight, and during the struggle, a shot was fired, hitting the victim in the leg. She had surgery and stayed in the hospital for a week for treatment.

The boyfriend and the victim’s aunt testified about the constant pain she faces and how the victim’s life changed.
