MORGANTOWN — Delmas Downey will spend four to 40 years in prison for his role in a string of business robberies in 2016.

On Jan. 12, Monongalia County Circuit Court Judge Russell Clawges handed down the sentence to four felony counts of breaking and entering.

Prosecutors previously said in August and September 2016 there was a string of the Cheat Lake and Evansdale area of Mon County.

Police discovered similarities between the incidents.

Officers also received a tip about some of the people who might be involved and tracked their vehicle. Police watched an area where several break-ins occurred, and one night, officers saw someone trying to enter Fujiyama, in the Pierpont Centre.

The suspect was unable to get inside and left the area in a vehicle, officers also found a broken window at the steakhouse.

Police stopped the vehicle and found three people inside, including Downey. Police found items that matched descriptions of things taken during some of the area break-ins.
