MORGANTOWN — One of the 109 recent high school graduates attending the National Youth Science Camp is a Mohigan.

Isabel Mirfakhraie, a 2017 graduate of Morgantown High School, was selected by the governor to represent the Mountain State during this year’s camp, which started mid-June in Pocahontas County.

Mirfakhraie, who has an interest in chemistry and biology, said one of her notable experiences at the camp so far was a visit by representatives of biomedical device manufacturers. She said the speakers shed light on health topics such as the spread of HIV through developing countries and what can be done to stop it.

“I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into,” Mirfakhraie said, reflecting on her selection. “So, it’s really cool to see things I learned in the classroom applied in real life.”
