MHS girls’ stifling defense spells victory

MARTINSGBURG — The Morgantown High girls’ basketball team flexed its defensive muscle Dec. 22.

MHS limited Spring Mills to 11 points in the second and third quarters en route to a 51-37 win.

“We held them to one field goal in the third quarter,” MHS coach Jason White said.

“Our defensive intensity led to some easy offensive opportunities. Our kids’ focus coming out of the locker room to start the third quarter was tremendous.”

Aleena McDaniel led the Mohigans (5-2) with 16 points. Sydni Clawges scored 11.

“This is one of the more unselfish games offensively I’ve been a part of at Morgantown High,” White said. “We shared the ball well, made the extra pass and got all the teammates involved.”

Jada Brooks paced Spring Mills (1-4) with 18 points. MHS returns to action at 6 p.m. Dec. 29, at St. Albans, in the St. Albans holiday tournament.
