KINGWOOD — Kingwood is going to work with Sunrise Sanitation and a recycling broker to sell its recyclables for more.

Sunrise representatives and Fred Cheek of Shamrock Recycling addressed council Feb. 13. On March 1, Sunrise will assume the routes of Preston Sanitation, which handles garbage pickups in areas around Preston County, but not Kingwood.

“The way we make our money is in volume. We’re in it for the long haul,” Cheek said.

Sunrise Chief Operating Officer Nathan Walter said the way the arrangement will work is that, when Kingwood has recyclables, it calls Sunrise. Sunrise will pick up the load and ship it to the end user.

The buyer will pay Sunrise, which will pay Kingwood within 30 days.
