MORGANTOWN — A woman accused of child neglect resulting in death had her case moved into the New Year.

Porreca was one of a couple dozen of suspects who went before Monongalia County Circuit Court Judge Susan Tucker on Nov. 27 to update the status of their case. Porreca was set for trial next week until Tucker agreed to move her case to February.

Defense Attorney Stephanie Nethken told Tucker they needed more time to review evidence in the case and weren’t ready for trial.

Porreca faces three to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Police said that in September 2016, state troopers went to a Fort Martin Road residence for a report of a 7-month-old in cardiac arrest. The baby was taken to a hospital, where he died.

The baby had injuries consistent with abuse and was never provided medical attention. Tests showed the baby had pneumonia. Porreca told state troopers she gave the infant medication when she noticed a fever, but only an antidepressant was found in his system.
