Bears dump Doubledays, end losing streak at 7

AUBURN, N.Y. (AP) — Hunter Owen hit a solo home run in the first inning, leading the West Virginia to a 3-1 win over the Auburn Doubledays on Aug. 31 that snapped the Black Bears’ losing streak at seven games.

Owen’s homer gave the Black Bears a 1-0 lead.

With the score 1-1 in the seventh, the Black Bears took the lead for good. Brett Pope hit a single to drive in Lucas Tancas.

Starter Scooter Hightower (4-1) got the win while Jeremy McKinney (1-2) took the loss in relief in the New York-Penn League game. Yoandy Fernandez pitched three scoreless innings for his second save of the season.
