Shoney's offers sit-down, family dining in Sabraton

Shoney’s in Sabraton has been open for two years.

Loyal customers and staff are looking forward to a continuing presence and reliable service.

Nick Nikzad, owner and manager, said when WVU wanted to purchase the original Shoney’s location, in Star City, he had the opportunity to seek out a new area where his franchise would be most appreciated.

“There was not a sit-down restaurant here (in Sabraton), you know, if you look around you have all the fast food but you don’t have a sit-down family restaurant, and that’s the main reason we came here,” Nikzad said.

He added that the sense of community and the emphasis placed on quality are combined in his establishment to create an ideal atmosphere.

“Customers enjoy it because it’s a family restaurant, it’s a local joint. You know when people come in here, they see their neighbors, they see their cousins, they see their relatives,” Nikzad said. “And they come in here because they know they can count on the quality of the food ... and most of all, the employees.”

Nikzad said his staff’s commitment is the single greatest key to success.

“It’s really a combination of having great people, that’s what makes it run,” he said. “I’ve been blessed with having a lot of good people who have been with me for many, many years. I have employees from the first day that are still with me.”

Clifford Linkous is a loyal customer of Shoney’s. He and his wife, Susan, attribute their regular patronage to the atmosphere and the food.

“We’re in and out of town a lot, we just got back in town ... and of course this is the first place we came to,” Linkous said. “I like it and I love this music ’cause it’s more my era. I like everything about it ... you feel comfortable, you feel like you’re at home here.”
