Kingwood pharmacy opens

Sister locations are in Masontown and Morgantown

Sister businesses Belldina’s Pharmacy in Masontown and Pierpont Landing Pharmacy outside Morgantown have added a third member to the family, in Kingwood.

Preston Family Pharmacy is now open on W.Va. 7, across the road from Wal-Mart and next to the Preston Health Care Services Clinic.

A grand opening will be held from 3-5 p.m. July 25 for anyone who wants to come out, meet the pharmacists and see the facility.

The new location is fully equipped with drive through services and plenty of parking space. While the pharmacy is located next to the clinic, it is open to anyone — not just patients from the clinic.

“You’re not just a number here, and you’re not just a customer,” said Holly Waugerman, a certified technician who has worked in the pharmacy field for 10 years. “We try to provide personal care to each and every customer that walks through the door.”

These customers include children, cats and dogs. For children, the pharmacy offers a free vitamin program. Customers simply need to bring in their child and fill out a profile to receive free vitamins each month.

An unusual flavoring program is also available for children and pets. The pharmacy will add flavoring to any liquid medicine free of charge.

“To hopefully get your kids to take it a little better,” pharmacy manager Jamie White said. White received her doctorate from WVU in 2003 and has worked as a pharmacist ever since.

Some of the flavors available for children include bubble gum, banana, apple, watermelon, grape and strawberry. Pet medicines can be flavored to taste like grilled tuna, chicken pot pie and Angus beef.
The pharmacy also offers pain medications and other pet products, such as Frontline. They can even be transferred from a sister pharmacy.

“We can work out something with [Pierpont Landing] and have it delivered to [the Kingwood] store so you won’t have to travel,” White said.

“We cater to our pets as well as our kids and our family.”
In addition to a drive-through for quick prescriptions pick-ups, Preston Family Pharmacy is working on launching a new smartphone application to do the same.

“You can scan your bar codes on prescription bottles and send refill requests right to our computer,” White said. A label then prints out and the pharmacy staff is able to prepare prescriptions immediately.
Customers can also provide a cell phone number and receive a text message when prescriptions are ready.

Counseling is also available.

“We have a little bit of a unique set-up in this pharmacy,” White said. “We have a counseling room.”
While larger chains and retailers have a small area, the pharmacists at Preston Family are able to sit at a table to explain how to use medication, insulin pens, nebulizers and inhalers.

“We can give demos and instructions,” White said. “We even have some video we can show, pages we can print off and go over with patients to make sure they fully understand how to use their medication.

“We aim to take the time to be the go-to person for any of your questions.”
