MedExpress opens Suncrest facility
Speedy, convenient treatment is at the heart of MedExpress’ mission. And in order to help facilitate that goal, the company, headquartered in Morgantown, recently added a second location in the city’s Suncrest area.
Open since October, the medical center at 956 Maple Drive, is one of 23 across the state. The company also has facilities in Arkansas, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey and Tennessee. All are open 12 hours a day, seven days a week.
“MedExpress was founded here in Morgantown 13 years ago, in 2001,”said Dean Hatcher, senior vice president of operations. “Since that time, we’ve experienced a rapid growth throughout the eastern United States.”
He attributes that expansion to the company’s “singular focus on the patient.”
“Keeping the patient No. 1, that’s allowed for us to have strong brand strength and a high patient satisfaction, and that’s fueled our growth.”
Access is a key reason the Maple Drive location was opened.
“Its location near retail and the residential area, we thought was perfect for the Morgantown community,” Hatcher said.
The company, started by four doctors who came up with the idea while residents at WVU, also has a center at 215 Don Knotts Blvd.
The Suncrest center offers the same services as the other MedExpress locations. In addition to urgent care, customers can receive health and wellness services such as flu shots, sports physicals and shingles vaccines, and occupational medicine products for employers.
“We also have the capabilities to provide a higher level of medical care, since we have an X-ray machine here and a lab, and treat more complicated illnesses like cuts that require stitches, fractures that require splinting, and IV therapy as well as EKGs,” Hatcher said.
He said most major insurances are accepted, and in West Virginia, so is Medicaid. However, insurance is not required.
Since opening, Hatcher said Morgantown’s latest MedExpress location has experienced a “brisk response from the community.”
He said the number of customers served varies by season, but assures the level of care is consistent.
“Regardless of our very busy periods, we’re able to treat each patient individually and give them the quality time they need for an optimal experience.”
