Friendly Nails expands services

What sets Friendly Nails apart from some salons is exactly what its name implies — friendly service.
“The environment is friendly, all day every day,” cosmetologist Christy Berkshire said, noting that employees promptly greet each customer. “We say ‘bye’ to them, all of us, as they leave.”
That hospitality has kept customers coming back to the Sabraton Plaza salon — in some cases, with friends. Friendly Nails recently added a private party room, after repeated requests to accommodate bridal and birthday parties.
“They requested that, and we’re happy to take care of that,” said owner Co Doan, also known as “DC.”
There is no fee to reserve the room, and Doan said Friendly Nails’ staff will serve beer and wine by request, free of charge.
Manicures — for parties, appointments and walk-ins — start at $15 per person, while pedicures start at $25. Customers who opt for both services get $2 off the total.
Friendly Nails has 11 employees — including Doan and his wife, Mychau Le, who opened the business together in January 2012. The salon is open seven days a week and also offers massage and facial services.
Debi Davidson, a Morgantown native who now lives in Chesapeake, Va., visits Friendly Nails whenever she comes to town to see her disabled mother.
“I am so happy with their services, the kindness [they] show my mom without fail,” Davidson said in an email.
Le, who also goes by “Helen,” typically does a shellac manicure for Davidson’s mother, while Davidson sees cosmetologist Mimi Nguyen.
“If I could take Mimi to Virginia Beach with me, I certainly would,” Davidson added. “I have ‘bad toes’ and Mimi is a miracle worker. I refer any friend or stranger to her.”
Jeannie Zinn also refers friends, who recently treated her to a gift certificate for a pedicure. She typically comes every couple weeks during the summer months.
“Everybody is friendly here and nobody acts like anyone’s too good to do your toes,” Zinn said. “I’ve been to some places where they were stuffy.”
