Hardware store fills a void
Offers DIY and commercial supplies, services

Matt Scott said customers are often shocked when they first enter CSC Home & Hardware in Sabraton.
“I didn’t know you had so much stuff,” they often say, noting the store’s impressive inventory.
But Scott, CSC’s vice president, said it’s customer service and quality that set the store apart from competitors.
“We meet and greet at the door,” Scott said. “We actually help walk product out to the customer’s door and help load customers into their cars with the products. We actually walk people to the shelves and help them find the right product selection. Our goal is to give each customer the most positive, memorable shopping experience they can experience.”
Contractor Ken Downey said he likes “the wide range of products they have and the service that you get [at CSC], the more professional help that you get here than the box stores.”
Commercial Builders, on Hartman Run Road, gets drywall, metal studs and insulation from CSC.
“The biggest reason we do business with them is they’re a local company with local owners, and they have a great selection of commercial construction materials, as well as home construction materials,” Commercial Builders Vice President Cory Kourtsis said. “They have a very good inventory. They deliver direct to the job site. They have great pricing, as well.”
Scott and his father, Pete, started CSC in 1991, at the Morgantown Industrial Park. Pete had been a manufacturing representative in the drywall business and recognized that Morgantown had no gypsum drywall distributor.
“We filled a void in the market,” Scott said.
CSC’s inventory has evolved from drywall, acoustical ceilings and other commercial building products to a full retail hardware store. But Scott said gypsum drywall still accounts for about
 75 percent of CSC’s business.
“We are the largest drywall company in the state of West Virginia. ... Sometimes if you go to a larger store and ask for drywall, it actually comes from me, on my truck, with my delivery crew actually doing the work,” Scott said.
CSC plans to continue its growth and evolution during the next year. Scott said the store will expand its retail hours and add to its services with a full lawn and garden center.
“We’re still investigating and finding our niche. I think it might be in the custom outdoor kitchens world,” Scott said. But he noted that the rebranded store will also meet a variety of other lawn and garden needs.
